You represent aspirations of 130 crore Indians: PM Modi at IIT Kharagpur convocation NewsFunda

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressing the 66th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur said that the new graduates represent the aspirations of 130 crore people in the country.

Addressing the IIT graduates, PM Modi said that India’s premier engineering institution needs to be able to provide solutions to India’s problems in order to become part of global application.

“You need to become startups that change people’s lives,” said the PM.

The PM said that 75 innovations developed by IIT Kharagpur should be collected and showcased to the world to celebrate India’s 75th year of Independence.

“This will further push our youth to challenge themselves and innovate,” said PM Modi.

Here are the highlights:

* While keeping an eye on the present situation, you must also anticipate the future. The students must work on the needs that can arise 10 years later and should innovate for the future.

* IITs need to be changed from just Indian Institutes of Technology to Institutes of Indigenous Technologies. The more our IITs research to solve India’s problems, the more it will become a part of global application.

* Can we provide the world with affordable environmental technology? This will help our image further globally.

* India is one of those countries in which the cost per unit of solar power is very less. However, there are several challenges to take solar power to every house. We need tech that minimizes damage to the environment.

* Be it the Internet of Things (IoT) or modern construction technology, IIT Kharagpur is doing a commendable job.

* Your software solutions are also useful in the fight against Corona. Now you have to work even faster on the futuristic solutions of health tech.

* The government has opened access to map and geospatial data. This step will strengthen the tech startup ecosystem and will also intensify the campaign for self-reliant India.

* Every scientist has learnt a new way of experiencing failure. Failure can form new roads to success. Aspirations, situations and needs of 21st century India have changed a lot.

* Going forward in life, you will have to answer questions about what is right and wrong. The “self-three” formula can help you find some answers.

* Self-awareness, self-confidence and selflessness. You should recognize your potential and move forward, move ahead with full confidence, move ahead with selflessness.

* When you become an engineer, you are able to develop the ability to change patterns to patents. In a way, you are able to look at things in detail.

* Understanding the patterns of problems take us towards long-term solutions. This understanding becomes the epicentre of new discoveries and breakthroughs.

PM Modi inaugurates super speciality hospital at IIT Kharagpur

The Prime Minister also inaugurated Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at IIT, Kharagpur.

The super speciality hospital has been set up by IIT Kharagpur with support from the ministry of education. The hospital will focus on robust biomedical, clinical and translational research.

It will also focus on the development of remote diagnostics, telemedicine, teleradiology along with research in drug design and delivery.

The MBBS programme in the institute is expected to start from the academic year 2021-22 in addition to postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
